Anointing of the Sick

At St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick takes place the First Saturday 8am Mass of each quarter (January, April, July, October) unless otherwise noted. You can also find the dates in the Event Calendar section of this web site once the date is published.

In general the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may and should be celebrated with people who:

  • experience a need for healing or are of advanced age
  • are scheduled for serious or major surgery
  • have had a downturn in health or have developed a new illness even though the person may have received the sacrament before

In the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick we pray for the kind of healing needed by the sick person. The healing may be physical, emotional and/or spiritual.
