The Filipino Community of St. Joseph invites you to celebrate the Feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz on Saturday, September 26th at the 5:30pm Vigil Mass in the Main Church. Reception immediately following in the parish hall. Mabuhay!

Who Was San Lorenzo Ruiz?

Born in Manila around 1600, Lorenzo Ruiz was a husband, father of three, altar server and member of the Dominican Confraternity of the Holy Rosary. After being accused of a crime, he left the Philippines aboard a ship with Dominican missionaries traveling to Japan, where Christians were being severely persecuted.

Lorenzo and his companions were arrested and ordered to renounce their faith. He remained steadfast and was martyred in Nagasaki in 1637. Pope Saint John Paul II canonized him in 1987, making him the first Filipino saint.

The Church observes the Memorial of Saints Lorenzo Ruiz and Companions on September 28, honoring their courage and unwavering witness to Christ. San Lorenzo Ruiz remains a powerful example of faith, particularly for families and lay Catholics throughout the world.

Come honor San Lorenzo Ruiz with our Filipino Community and give thanks for the faithful witness of this husband, father and martyr.
