As a stewardship parish, St Joseph offers many opportunities to put our faith into action. Every parishioner and family member is asked to contribute at least “one hour a week” (or more) in our ministries and other volunteer opportunities.

Chinese Gathers for prayer, fellowship, and cultural celebration within the life of the parish, enriching the spiritual life of St. Joseph through language and tradition.

Devotion Ministries

24-Hour Devotion Deepens devotion through continuous prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, drawing hearts into closer union with Our Lord Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.

Legion of Mary Promotes devotion to Our Lady through prayer and active service, bringing Christ's presence into homes and hearts.

Prayer Team Intercedes faithfully for the needs of our parish and community, strengthening the spiritual foundation of our church family.

Respect Life Upholds the dignity of every human person from conception to natural death through prayer, education, and faithful witness.

Faith Formation Ministries

Catechist / Instructor Teaching the fullness of the Catholic faith to children, youth, and adults, forming disciples grounded in truth and love.

Family Mass (Sunday, 12 pm) Brings generations together in reverent worship, strengthening families as the domestic church.

OCIA/OCIC (Adults, Children) Prepares adults and children for full communion with the Catholic Church through study, prayer, and formation in community.

Office Support / Faith Formation Assists in organizing and coordinating religious education programs, ensuring that faith formation efforts run smoothly and effectively.

St. Joseph Catholic School Provides a strong academic foundation rooted in Catholic faith and moral formation, educating children to grow in wisdom, virtue, and love of God.

Youth & Confirmation Guides young people toward a mature and active Catholic faith through instruction, service, and fellowship.

Fellowship & Service

CYO Youth Sports Fosters teamwork, discipline, and Christian character through organized athletics, forming virtue through sport and community.

Garden & Flower Group Cares for the beauty of our grounds and worship spaces, honoring the reverence due to God's house.

Hospitality Welcomes parishioners and visitors with warmth, building fellowship and belonging through parish gatherings and events.

Men's Ministry Strengthens Catholic men in faith, leadership, and service through prayer and fraternity.

Presentation Design (MS, Google) Supports parish communications through digital presentation and technology, ensuring clarity and professionalism.

Young Adults Gathers men and women in their 20s and 30s for prayer, fellowship, and authentic Catholic community.

Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers Assist the priest at the altar, fostering reverence and love for the Sacred Liturgy.

Art, Altar & Environment Prepares and beautifies the church according to the liturgical seasons, supporting prayer through sacred design.

Eucharistic Ministers Assist in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ, serving with devotion and reverence.

Lectors Proclaim the Word of God at Mass with prayerful preparation and clarity.

Music / Choir & Instruments Elevates the Sacred Liturgy through chant, hymnody, and instrumental excellence, uniting the assembly in worship.

Sacristans / Altar Preparation Prepare the altar and sacred vessels before each liturgy, ensuring that every Mass is celebrated with dignity and order.

Ushers Welcome and assist parishioners during liturgies, helping maintain a prayerful and hospitable environment.

Mission San José Ministries

Docents Share the sacred and historical story of Mission San José, guiding visitors through its heritage and inviting deeper understanding of its faith and legacy.

Greeters Welcome visitors to the Mission with warmth and hospitality, offering assistance and creating a gracious first encounter with this historic and sacred place.

Inventory Team Manages inventory for the Mission Museum and Gift Shop, supporting daily operations while safeguarding the Mission's resources and heritage.

Library Cataloging Organizes and preserves the historic Fr. Abeloe Library within the Mission Museum, safeguarding its rare collections for study and future generations.

Mission Gardening Maintains the historic grounds with reverence and care, preserving the beauty and legacy of Mission San José.

Outreach Ministries

Homeless Outreach Serves our local community through essential supplies and compassionate presence, responding to human need with dignity.

Neighborhood Outreach Extends parish care into the surrounding community through direct service and visible witness.

Pastoral Care Brings prayer and sacramental support to those who are ill, homebound, or in need of spiritual comfort.

Refugee Resettlement Assists newly arrived families as they establish stable and hopeful lives through practical support and parish generosity.

Sister John Marie's Pantry Responds to those facing hardship through person-to-person assistance, guided by faith and compassion.

St. Vincent de Paul Provides food assistance to individuals and families in need with respect and Christian charity.

“Faith without works is dead” (James 2:17). “Show, by your life, that it is worth giving your time and talents in order to attain high ideals, it is worth recognizing the dignity of each human person, and it is worth taking risks for Christ and his Gospel.” Pope Francis (7/28/13).

Good stewards live with joy and gratitude for the blessings they have received—including those that have multiplied through diligence and hard work. Indeed, good stewards live in communion with Christ and through Christ and the Spirit strive to return all gifts to the Father “with an increase.”

Our service ministries help each other and the community. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” God created each and every one of us with a unique purpose.

Finance and Facilities

THE PARISH FACILITIES TEAM

The Parish Facilities Team is always looking for parishioners interested in joining the Facilities Team and parishioners who may be able to help from time to time on a specific need or project. If you are a general contractor, architect, engineer, project manager, or landscaper, or have experience in plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, masonry, and other building trades we can use your help. The Facilities Team meets one evening a month. If you are interested in joining or helping the Facilities Team, or to add your name to our resources list, please contact the parish office at 510-656-2364.

Parish Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is part of the Parish’s Stewardship Council. The Committee provides oversight on matters of financial accountability of Parish funds. They advise on the allocation of financial resources to achieve the Parish mission and on financial reporting. Do you have skills as a CPA, business planner, administrator, investment manager, business owner or manager, auditor or are just good with numbers? The Finance Committee may be a great fit for you. If you are interested in helping the Parish with budgeting and financial management, please contact Gina Mehta, Parish Business Manager, at the parish office at 510-656-2364.

Mission San Jose

Our Mission is known state-wide and receives visitors from all parts of California. We wouldn’t be able to share our historic church without help from people like you. Volunteers help as docents, gardeners, office staff and much more.

Saint Joseph School

Our Saint Joseph School volunteers help our children learn and grow. Part-time positions on the staff are sometimes available as well.

Parish Office

We have volunteer positions in the Parish Office to offload our busy staff and support the parish.

If you are willing to share a couple of hours of your time to help with answering phones, taking Mass intentions, and taking care of small projects, please call the Parish Office at 510-656-2364.
