NOP Visitors Needed

House in Fremont

The Neighborhood Outreach Project (NOP) began during Covid with 60 people who connected with all in our parish database to update information and see if there was any way the parish could help them. We found people who were no longer in the parish, had new e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers, and some who wanted communion brought to them. After Covid, NOP volunteers organized BBQs, visited homebound parishioners, helped get out mailings for the parish and donated food and time to Hospitality Sundays and events.

As organizer for visiting elderly and homebound parishioners and do not do many visits. But last month I met Mary and Joseph Carney. I tried to call to tell them I was coming, however, they had no current phone or e-mail, so, I just knocked on their door. Tammy, their daughter and caretaker, opened the door, invited me in to say hello to her parents, gave me new contact info, told me that Mary would be 100 years old on March 31 and said, “Please come again”. It was a 10 minute visit and we need more people to do this a few times a year.
