Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most revered and iconic Marian apparitions in the Catholic Church. In 1531, the Blessed Mother appeared to Saint Juan Diego, a humble Aztec convert, on the Hill of Tepeyac in Mexico City. During the apparitions, which took place from December 9 to 12, Our Lady of Guadalupe requested that a church be built on the site in her honor. As a miraculous sign, she left an image of herself on Juan Diego’s tilma, which has been preserved and is now venerated at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. This image, known as the “Tilma of Juan Diego,” is considered one of the most sacred and mysterious relics in the Catholic Church.
