Ash Wednesday is on February 22 this year. There are 3 Mass times: 8AM, 12 noon, & 7:30 PM. The Eucharistic ministers will also distribute ashes.

Watch for the sign-up sheet (after February 3) for the 8 AM (need 4 ministers), Noon (need 4 ministers), and 7:30 PM (need 8 ministers) Masses.

We want to add more Head Cup and Head Host ministers for all the Masses. If you are interested, or know of someone who is interested, please call or write us. We will provide the additional training required on an individual basis.

Reminders

•For the ministers of the cup, when the distribution is complete, please take your cup back to the credence table, consume any left over, and then lay the purificator over the top, or lay it on the tray next to the cup. Please do not stuff the purificator into the cup (this soaks up more consecrated wine which is difficult to clean.)

•Head Eucharistic Ministers: When you set up for the next Mass, when you place the trays on the credence table, remove the priest’s chalice and place on the credence table with a purificator on top. The altar server will bring the chalice to the altar when he/she then opens the purificator, and places the chalice on the purificator.

1. For All Ministers:
Bowing:
When Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist approach the Altar, stop before the first step and make a profound bow toward the Tabernacle. Then proceed to your position. />
After your duties in the sanctuary are complete, you may bow once you reach the floor below the last step.
2.For Head ministers of the Host (Bread)
A. Comments on procedures after distribution of the consecrated Bread.
We have three priests which preside in our parish. Each performs the collection of unused consecrated Bead somewhat different and transfer to the Tabernacle.
The official procedure (from GIRM) calls for an ordained minister (bishop, priest or deacon) to return any unused consecrated Bread to the Tabernacle to be used for the sick, weekday Masses, or in certain circumstances later Masses that Sunday.
Our current procedure at St. Joseph MSJ is to not plan on the reserved consecrated Bread in determining how many hosts to set out in the set up for Mass. (Enforcement of this procedure was recently emphasized by the Bishop to various parishes and observing a wide variety of procedures being used.)
The key to a proper execution of this part of our procedure is to observe the priest and or deacon when it is time to combine the remaining Bread from the dishes. If the priest or deacon is waiting patiently near the center of the altar for the distribution to be complete, you may assume that he will combine the Bread into the gold ciborium, and return it to the Tabernacle. In this case then just stand by to let them finish, and then you complete what else has to be done, e.g., put the dishes on the tray, and remove the tray from the altar. If the priest has left the altar and gone to sit in the presider chair, then you complete the whole process, e.g., combine the hosts into the ciborium, return to Tabernacle, and remove the dishes.
B. Key Removal />
The key should be removed after the 5:30 PM, 12:30, and 6:30 PM Masses. It is not required to remove the key between 7:30, 9 and 11 AM Masses.

January 28 ~ San Niño Novena, Mass, and Reception

Please join the Filipino community of St. Joseph in celebrating the feast of the Santo Niño beginning with a novena prayer at 4pm then Mass at 5:30pm on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at St. Joseph church. This is to commemorate our continuous devotion to the child Jesus. We also request that you bring your image of the Santo Niño for blessing.
