Saint Joseph Parish Old Mission San Jose Founded 1797
We Welcome You to Join Us in Our Mission.
History
At the Ohlone Indian village of Oroysom, Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuen founded this fourteenth of twenty-one Franciscan missions June 11, 1797. Taught by Padre Narciso Duran, the Ohlone orchestra and choir became famous. By 1830 almost 2,000 Indians were living at the mission. The 1868 earthquake destroyed the adobe church and most other mission buildings. The church was rebuilt in 1985. Further details about our history can be found here and additional photographs here.

Healing
This week’s Gospel tells us that Jesus' healing of Peter's mother-in-law was very personal: he approached her, grasped her
hand, and helped her up. (Mark 1:29-39)
A sick child instinctively seeks the loving touch; he or she wants the caregiver to sit by the bed, to be near.
Even as adults, when we are ill or down-and-out, we seek comfort from a trusted and caring other who grasps our hand: As
the gospel illustrates, in times of trouble we need the personal touch and presence of Jesus' love.
Please join us at Mass as we celebrate this holy season and find ways we can be inspired by Jesus’s love.
